Based on a true story, this movie was not only astoundingly well done, but overall effective in curiosity. I mean take in consideration the level of mystery this movie puts out, as none and I repeat none of us have ever seen such a case in our lives. We might pass life through and never see someone with such a terrifying yet unique situation. Getting younger as you get older? I am more than positive that the majority of women would do anything to have that disease. It is quiet the mystery how God and genetics work when it comes to such a case.

Personally I was very much entertained by the intensity behind the illness. Non-the-less as a movie lover, this was by far one of the most interesting movies for me in the year 2008. As 2009 comes along and we get a whole new batch of movies, "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" is by far one of the best movies I have seen in a very long time.

I highly recommend watching this movie and taking the time to critique it with a bit of comments at the bottom. Enjoy your time and I hope my little review helps.

and one worth going to see simply for it's escapism.

Loosely adapted from F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1921 short story by the same name, this is what going to the movies is all about. It offers escapism, it's full of delight. It's full of looking at life from a different perspective, something most of us don't do.

I don't go to the movies to write critiques, I go to be entertained and to escape the regular humdrum of life, this movie fulfilled my desires. The nice thing about attending the session I did, it was a full house and people actually applauded at the end of the movie in appreciation of the acting and the concept of the story. You can't ask for more than that, despite what so called movie critics might write.

Music, theater, movies, acting in any form is very much a subjective thing.

Watch UFC 92 Forrest Griffin vs Rashad Evans fight

One heck of a fight... UFC did it again by bringing together some of the best in their class. Rashad Evans and Forrest Griffin put together a performance that not only filled the time of the battle, but kept us on our feet all the way through. These two competators not only have respect for each other, but are by far the most respected in the UFC. They came in ready to fight respectfully. You can clearly see the respect between both apponents at the end when Evans and Griffin give each other that sportman's like hug.

The fight was intense and overall stung me through out the time. I was on the edge, ready to blow waiting to see who would really win! I mean Rashad Evans is a great fighter and a great person (I met him in person once) but Griffin also has his history in the UFC. This is a fight no one should ever miss! Watch it and critique it for me, leave me a little note at the bottom letting me know what you think of this fight!

Watch UFC 92 Quinton Jackson Knocks Out Wanderlei Silva Watch UFC 92 Online free

Well we all know who exactly beat who this match. We are all aware of the level of talk these two have put out prior to the fight. Other than the fact that this was one of the nicest little knockouts of the night, this fight was already anticipated by me all along.

You can tell the level of fear Silva was in through out the fight. Unable to even budge Rampage, Silva is clearly way out of the line in this match. A straight knockout when Silva attempts to throw a few punches together, which again was anticipated. Watch the video for yourself and let me know what you think! A very exciting moment non-the less!

To preface this review, I read all four Twilight books in one weekend (last weekend, actually) when I picked the first one up at the airport, and could not put it down. I zipped through the other three and went to the midnight screening on opening day. To say the least, I was captivated by Twilight (and I'm in my 20s...).

I was anxious to see the movie because, like so many other people, I felt really invested in Bella and Edward's story. Not only that, but I love the vampire premise - it just never gets old, especially when you put a new spin on it, as Meyer did in her books. The events of each book really ran together for me, so in a way, I felt like a non-Twilighter coming into this film. I really didn't care if the movie deviated from the book - in fact, I was kind of hoping it would, since you can't expect a book to translate directly to the screen. I heard a lot of serious Twilight teens complaining about "major things" missing when I left the theater, but I honestly didn't notice any major omissions.

Overall, the film was better than I expected (based on previews, I expected it to be extremely cheesy, low-budget, and awkwardly filmed). It definitely grew on me as it went on, especially Pattinson's performance. His introduction was extremely awkward - not sure if that was Hardwicke's fault or Pattinson's acting. In any case, as soon as he settled into his character, he was absolutely captivating. Stewart plays a great brooder, and she certainly did that here. I loved the scenes with her father; in my opinion, these were some of the gems of the movie.

The romance between Edward and Bella, which was obviously the crux of the film, was fueled by their chemistry, but not much else. Where was the development?! I really wish Hardwicke or the screenwriter or somebody had taken more time to delve into the roots of their relationship. It all just happened way too fast. I feel like this happened because of the James story, which to me was almost completely unnecessary (yeah, I know, it's a big part of the book and obviously needs to be here). But even so, the film would have been a more moving romance, and probably a more poignant, emotional film, if that cheesy, goofy subplot hadn't existed.

Hardwicke dealt exceptionally well with teen angst, which was evident in the high school shots. Unfortunately, she really struggled with the vampire side of things. I have to put most of the blame on the director because the characters were all spot-on, very well-acted and well-cast. I also think a higher budget would have done wonders for this movie, and I'm hoping that becomes a reality for the sequel. The special effects were embarrassingly bad, and nearly ruined the movie.

Overall, I enjoyed "Twilight" for what it was - a romance that probed the timeless dilemma of wanting what you can't have (and despite Meyer's Mormon beliefs, this whole series is basically a metaphor for sex). It makes for an interesting, compelling story, and I expect more from the sequels, because the potential is certainly there.

A schizophrenic film. Scott Derrickson has done his best to make a run of the mill CGI-enhanced sci-fi thriller but has found himself thwarted by the remarkable screen presence of Keanu Reeves and the ghost of Bernard Herrmann.

Reeves was the draw for me; where some find him laughable, I find him sober and engaging. His alien-in-a-human is at once non-porous of emotion but registers the emotional to-ing and fro-ing that decide his actions. He's a classy screen idol, well-cast. The rest of the cast (the very capable Jennifer Connelly included) are at the mercy of a truly ridiculous story both in concept and in local narrative. The gravity of the situation in which humankind as represented by Americans finds itself is only captured in the single-gear performance of Reeves and the unobtrusive but peculiar 'Herrmann' score, resurrected for the film by Tyler Bates.

There's a lot of silliness - a lot of cartoonish world's end drama which, strangely, doesn't do what it purports to which is update the 1951 original. It still feels dated. We are also presented with John Cleese as a Nobel Prize winner. Well that's also ridiculous on the face of it - but I tell you something, if the end where nigh and you wanted someone leftfield to plead your seemingly intractable case, you'd do a lot worse than Cleese. As a final oddity the product placement in the film seems at odds with the frowning upon consumerism that's at it's heart. Or maybe they're companies leading the charge to save the world. It's all a bit confusing. 4/10

Not quite what I was expecting, 20 December 2008

I saw this movie today on opening night down the street. From previews and the cast list, it sounded like a good movie. However, it definitely did not live up to any of the animated films we have seen this year. I enjoyed films like Kung Fu Panda and Bolt, along with Horton Hears a Who. This film just didn't live up to standards.

I wont go into much detail because I don't want to spoil anything. This movie was only mildly funny. Maybe a chuckle now and then, but it never actually had me laughing at loud like I did in other animated films this year. The voice acting I liked, especially Dustin Hoffman who I've liked, along with Matthew Broadrick. However, voice over and famous actors aren't the only traits that makes a movie good. The storyline wasn't very original, and very very predictable. A fairy tale that they tried to bring to life but just didn't go according to plan. I wouldn't even say a child would find this amusing. My brother who is 8 usually sits through a whole movie, however he didn't mind getting up to go to the bathroom in the middle of this movie and missing some of it.

I give this movie 5/10 stars for the voices and the animation/CGI. It reminded me of Ratatouille in the animation sense, but it didn't help. Other than those two factors, this isn't a very memorable movie that I would say is worth paying for, even with a child. It just doesn't live up to this year's animated features. Not a very detailed review, but I don't like to spoil anything.

Yes Man follows the same basic genre comedy structure that we've seen an endless amount of times in the past few years. The main character has a big problem, they work to solve that problem, the problem is solved and happy times are had. Then another problem arises as a result to the solution to the original problem. So everyone is sad. But then that problem is solved and everyone lives happily ever after. And there's a message about how to live your life sprinkled in there. For every single comedy in the past few years with that structure, I've gotten so bored by the time it's over because I just lose interest when the drama comes in during the third act. I either don't care about the characters or I don't care about the message.

Every comedy except for this one. Not only did I care about the characters so much (thanks mostly to the performances from Jim Carrey and Zooey Deschanel who put a beautiful, free-spirited romance at the core of this seemingly typical comedy) that I was emotionally impacted during that predictable turn for the worse near the end, but the message of the film was actually something that I found relatable to my own life which is something I've never experience during these kind of comedies. I'm definitely a man who doesn't really live his life (as cheesy as that sounds) because I isolate myself by making excuses to just be alone and not be with anyone. As a result, I was definitely more invested in this film than I have been with other comedies of the same vein.

Add to all this the fact that it's completely hilarious throughout to the point where I have no hesitation in calling it the funniest movie of the year and easily the best straight comedy (not that there have been many good ones; three by my count). Plus, of course, Zooey Deschanel is absolutely infectious in every moment she's on screen (especially her lovely singing). I love her more than air, and this is just another example of why that love is justified. Call it fanboyism if you must, but she's my #2 of the year in supporting actress right now falling second only to the Cruz. In summation, do yourself a favor and say yes to this great comedy.

A flawed but fun-filled romp., 20 December 2008

I love the interview with Lorenzo Semple Jnr, screenwriter for 'Flash Gordon,' when he suggests that the film would have been a big hit if only they'd been able to market it as a movie that would be a cult classic in thirty years. He goes on to explain what the core problem is: A cult film, by definition has fanatical supporters ... just not a lot of them. Those who 'get' the film will keep it alive forever, but Joe Moviegoer won't care if he ever sees it again. And so I turn to 'The Spirit,' a film which has similar qualities to 'Flash Gordon': bad enough to be awesome, tongue firmly in it's cheek and gentle satire in it's hand.

'The Spirit' manages to be wondrous and infuriating. A visual feast, Frank Miller was the perfect choice to bring the film to life. On the other hand, the dialogue is often so cheesy and the characters so over the top that the movie never allows you to be lulled into that wonderful moment of forgetting that you're watching a movie. There isn't a single character in the movie who talks like a real person. They all talk like, well, comic book archetypes: gruff commissioner, megalomaniacal super villain, brilliant evil assistant, sultry femme fatales, loyal and uninteresting love interest, and on and on. Take Samuel L Jackson's character, 'The Octopus' for example. It is a character that Jackson was born to play and Sam throws every ounce of his endlessly entertaining and over the top style into the character. It works and he plays the part brilliantly because he takes ridiculous dialogue and ridiculous material and has wild amounts of fun with it. The cast, by and large, follow his lead. Scarlett Johansson is hilariously withering with her acerbic barbs to The Octopus' clone lackeys, all of whom are played with deadpan wit and verve by Louis Lombardi. It is hard, in fact, not to feel some pity for Gabriel Macht who has to play Bud Abbott to a cast of rollicking, scene-chewing Lou Costellos in an over-acting competition. It all works wonderfully if you're willing to view the film as, uncharitably, being unintentionally funny or more genuinely as a gentle lampoon of comic book films by one of the great figures of the graphic novel genre.

Frank Miller takes 'The Spirit' and has great fun with it. It is quirky at times, ham-handed at times, but lovingly made. A brilliant Noirist, Miller actually has much better luck in 'The Spirit' in moments of levity. The noir angles of this film don't work unless designed as a kind of self-righteous satire. The noir feels forced and dramatic moments are mercilessly skewered by the corny dialogue that a helpless Gabriel Macht delivers with straight-laced determination. 'The Spirit' has the look of 'Sin City' and the heart of 'Flash Gordon.' When it works, it works well, but the film is a terrible mess whenever it is trying to be serious.

So is it worth the ride? I think so if you go in with the proper expectations. There's not really anything new visually if you've seen 'Sin City' or '300' -- both Miller works of course -- but that didn't make them any less interesting to me. Plenty of humour where it may or may not have been planned and the potential to be a cult classic. This is the kind of movie you can best enjoy in the company of friends and a cold six pack. Look for diamonds and you're looking for too much. And if nothing else, Eva Mendes has never looked better on film than she does here. That's got to stand for something, right?

Amazing. Tear-jerker., 18 December 2008

This movie is truly great. The beginning is slightly confusing...but that's the point; it keeps you guessing. I saw an early screening of this movie...and WOW. The whole movie theater was bawling by the end and everyone was wiping their eyes. 7 Pounds will touch your soul in places you didn't think were possible, and leave you crying even if you're not one to cry in public. It's truly touching. A must-see. I highly recommend it.

Will Smith is an amazing actor. All of his movies have been great, but this one takes the cake. Rosario Dawson also plays an amazing co-lead. Props to both of them. This movie felt very real, and I could feel the pain and emotion of the characters as the plot developed. If you need a movie for the holidays this is the perfect choice for the holidays to get your emotions flowing. I really feel the gift of giving can be such a wonderful thing. Please see this movie.
